Sazerac Launches ‘Barreled Cocktails’

Sazerac Co. introduced Handy & Schiller Barreled Cocktails, named for two men who had a great impact on the rich cocktail culture in New Orleans, Thomas Handy and John Schiller.

Schiller was a New York bartender who found his way to New Orleans and by 1860, began operating the world-famous Sazerac Coffeehouse in the French Quarter. Handy, originally from Maryland, worked for Schiller at the Sazerac Coffeehouse, and later went on to establish a successful importing and wholesale liquor business. Together, in New Orleans, these two men played a role in the early days of cocktail making that helped set the standard and inspiration for cocktails going forward.

With the launch of Handy & Schiller Barreled Cocktails comes two signature cocktails, the Handy & Schiller Barreled Old Fashioned, and the Handy & Schiller Barreled Manhattan.

Each of these signature cocktails were crafted and aged at the World’s Most Award Winning Distillery, Buffalo Trace Distillery, using its award-winning spirits, and are designed to be served neat or over ice.

“We’re incredibly excited about the launch of Handy & Schiller cocktails,” Jana Ritter, marketing manager said. “We believe this will provide cocktail enthusiasts the perfect way to conveniently serve quality cocktails.”

Handy & Schiller Barreled Cocktails will initially launch only in New Orleans, the birthplace of the American cocktail, with the intent to spread to other select markets by late 2018.

Each signature cocktail will come in a sleek matching canister and will be available beginning in October at a suggested retail price of $39.99.
