PLCB Mulls Adding Fulfillment Centers to Meet Online Demand

With Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf’s ordering shuttering the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board‘s Fine Wine & Spirits stores still in place, many Pennsylvania are driving to neighboring states to buy bev/al creating long lines at those state stores.

We’ve reported that at least two counties in West Virginia have closed liquor stores to out-of-state residents, and long lines in Steubenville, Ohio, are leading some there to call for a similar ban.

The demand in Pennsylvania is obvious, and the PLCB said it is considering adding more fulfillment centers to meet the demand created by its new online sales program. The online system has been getting more than 2 million page hits a day, fulfilling about 1,800 orders a day last week. It takes two days to get delivery.

The existing fulfillment centers, staffed with employees and contract workers, are in Pittsburgh, the Philadelphia suburbs and Wilkes-Barre.
