Equiano Debuts 2d African & Caribbean Brand

Equiano Light ($45.99) consists of molasses rum distilled at the award-winning Foursquare Distillery, in copper pot stills that give the rum greater complexity and depth of flavor. It is truly an artisanal small batch process, whilst the column still allows the final blend to have a superior balance both in aroma and on the palate. It is then blended and aged in once used Bourbon barrels for a minimum of 3 tropical years.

The Barbadian rum is then skillfully blended with unaged rum made from fresh sugarcane juice from Africa. This “cane juice” rum is distilled in a single column still to produce a refreshingly light rum that retains all of the natural grassy notes of the raw sugar cane ingredients.

Buffalo Trace Releases Warehouse C Bourbon

In honor of Col. Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr., Buffalo Trace Distillery will release in early June a one-time edition Warehouse C Bourbon (SRP: $69.99) in the E.H. Taylor Jr. line.

Warehouse C was built in 1885 and is the warehouse he was most proud of, the final piece in his “model distillery.”

Originally built before elevators were available, ramps were used inside Warehouse C to manually roll barrels to each floor.  With six floors holding a total of 24,000 barrels and each barrel weighing approximately 500 pounds when filled, it must have been quite a task to get barrels into their ricks!

In more modern times, a barrel elevator was installed, and Warehouse C was re-ricked and re-floored to maximize capacity.  Since barrel warehouses are built with the barrel ricks as stand alone units not attached to the walls for safety measures in case of a collapse, the re-design of Warehouse C when the elevator was put in allows for good air flow throughout the floors, making for an excellent all around aging warehouse for new and old barrels.

The barrels in the E.H. Taylor Jr. Warehouse C release were all aged for ten years in the center of Warehouse C, with half of them coming from the second floor and the other half from the fifth floor.  The second floor is an outstanding aging floor for older barrels.  The ricks are very tight, making it slow and difficult to put in new barrels.  The floor is very dry, making it ideal for 10 to 15-year-old products.  The fifth floor of Warehouse C is a well-rounded aging floor with windows all the way around, providing excellent air flow throughout the floor.  There is ample sunlight through these windows which helps heat up the warehouse and the aging process.

On-Premise Retailers Can Get a Clorox Cleaning System

In the face of the global pandemic, how do you get consumers back into bars and restaurants?  One way is to assure them the premises are beyond normal cleanliness standards. Latitude 42˚ Brewing Co., Kalamazoo, Mich., took a major step in that direction, being awarded a Clorox Total 360® System and Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) Fundamentals Online course scholarship as part of a collaboration between CloroxPro®, ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association, and GBAC, a division of ISSA.

The Kalamazoo restaurant group applied for the program as they look to maintain a cleaner environment and reinforce confidence for patrons who are visiting their facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

This program is open exclusively to organizations and individuals based in the United States. Priority is given to smaller businesses that have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and fall into the following categories: Foodservice; Hospitality; Transportation; Zoos/Amusement Parks; Prisons and Places of Worship. Applications for the program are open until June 30, 2021. To learn more and apply, visit: http://www.issa.com/clorox-gbac.

“Our goal at Latitude 42˚ Brewing Company is to do everything we can to help enhance the safety and well-being of our customers and employees all year round,” said Bradley J. Bishop, president. “The Clorox® Total 360® System will allow us to more effectively and efficiently clean and disinfect high-touch and hard-to-reach surfaces, and the added insights from the GBAC Fundamentals course will ensure a more enhanced comprehensive disinfection for our space.”

The Clorox® Total 360® System works by charging and atomizing the Clorox® disinfecting solution, delivering a powerful flow of charged droplets that are attracted to surfaces with a force stronger than gravity. This allows the disinfecting solution to reach and uniformly coat surfaces, including areas where conventional trigger sprays may easily miss.

The GBAC Fundamentals Online Course enables recipients to further their cleaning, disinfection and infection prevention education by teaching the fundamentals of cleaning and disinfecting for health as well as prevention, response and control measures for outbreak situations. Individuals who successfully complete the course become a GBAC-Trained TechnicianTM, and possess the planning, knowledge and processes needed to respond to a biohazard crisis in the workplace.

Today is National Waitstaff Day

From small diners and bars, up to fancy five-star restaurants, before the pandemic, there were more than 579,000 eating and drinking places operating nationwide.

Until recently, almost $600 billion was spent in these establishments, which employed more than 11 million workers, according to the Census Bureau. Prior to the pandemic, our orders were taken, and food and beverages served, by some 2.1 million waitstaff, nearly seven out of 10 of whom were women.
