Imports Lead Decline in TTB Product Approvals

Product approvals by Alcohol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau fell 11.7% in the second quarter, according to bw166.com.

The biggest decline was in wine, with 27,100 approvals, down 15.6% from a year earlier, followed by beer, down 3.2% to 8,600.  While those two categories showed declines, spirits actually added 4,000 approval, up about 0.9% from the like year-earlier quarter.

Interestingly, domestic approvals overall rose 3.2%.  Imports, however, plunged 25.#% to 17,500.
