DSC Urges Fla. Gov. to Sign ‘Take Down Wall’ Legislation

Distilled Spirits Council urged Florida Gov. Rick Scott to sign SB 106, legislation that would allow spirits sales in larger retail locations such as grocery stores and big-box retailers.

The legislation, known as the “Take Down the Wall” bill, allows beer, wine and spirits to be sold in larger retail locations. Currently, retailers must segregate spirits into a side store separated by a wall, inconveniencing consumers.

“We urge Governor Scott to sign this legislation that advances the free market principles Florida is known for throughout the business community,” said Distilled Spirits Council Vice President Jay Hibbard. “Requiring retailers to segregate spirits into a separate store is outdated, discriminatory and unnecessary in a modern 21st Century marketplace. Providing the same access to beer, wine and spirits is a win for consumers and provides much needed shopping convenience.”
