Deutsch Family Wine Takes 50% Stake in Dan Cohn’s Bellacosa

Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits is purchasing a 50% stake in the Bellacosa brand, a North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon developed by Dan Cohn. The deal is expected to close in February.

“Bellacosa is an extraordinary wine and a terrific value, at $15 by the glass it will be a key lever in helping us win with on-premise,” said Deutsch. “More and more people are trading up to this premium price segment, with Cabernet leading the charge. It’s a perfect fit for us, filling out the higher end of our premium wine portfolio.”

“As someone who’s been in the wine industry almost my entire life, I’ve built relationships along the way with incredible people who have become my family. This is how I feel about Bill and Peter,” said Cohn. “Partnering with another family-owned business that recognizes the value of people is important to me. The Deutsch Family understands the Bellacosa story, and I’m confident their distribution network will help get the wine in the right accounts.”

The brand launched in October 2015 with the 2014 vintage. The wine’s proprietary name, Bellacosa, means “It’s a beautiful thing.” Cohn relies on his industry contacts to source the best parcels for Bellacosa from vineyards throughout Sonoma, Napa, Oakville and Coombsville. Bellacosa is a single SKU plus a limited release Oakville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
