150 Distillers Flock to Washington for Policy Conference

More than 150 distillers are taking part in the conference, a joint project of  the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States and the American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA),

It will feature a series of legislative and regulatory sessions on key federal and state issues impacting the distilling industry.  As part of the conference, craft distillers will participate in more than 250 congressional visits with their home state legislators to urge support for the Craft Beverage Modernization & Tax Reform Act (H.R. 1175/S. 362), which makes permanent a federal excise tax cut on distilled spirits that was enacted in 2017.  Without congressional approval, the tax cut for distillers will expire Dec. 31, 2019.

Distillers will also discuss with legislators the devastating impacts that retaliatory tariffs on spirits exports are having on American distillers as they expand into foreign markets and the importance of their distilleries to the economic development of their surrounding communities.

More than 100 craft distillers from around the country will share their bourbons, vodkas, gins and more tomorrow, Tuesday, July 23, to benefit the National Press Club’s Journalism Institute.

The event, to be held in the First Amendment and Holeman Lounges, will begin at 6 p.m, and will be open to members of the Club, working journalists and the general public. Please register online.

The tasting is sponsored by DISCUS and ACSA to raise funds for the Club’s Journalism Institute, which campaigns for press freedom issues and helps train journalists.
