Wine Group Acquires 7 Deadly Brand

Wine Group purchased the 7 Deadly brand, the No. 1 Zinfandel brand in the U.S., from Michael David Winery.  Terms weren’t disclosed.

First released in 2002, 7 Deadly’s lead SKU, 7 Deadly Zins, has been the #1 Zinfandel in America since 2015. Its powerful, racy style, sourced from certified sustainable old vine Zinfandel vineyards in the Lodi AVA, remains distinct among California Zinfandels. The 7 Deadly brand also includes 7 Deadly Red, a proprietary red blend from the Lodi AVA that has grown approximately 500% over the last 52-weeks.

“We are always looking for strong brands built on quality that have potential to grow, and we are thrilled to bring 7 Deadly into The Wine Group’s portfolio,” said Brian Vos, CEO of The Wine Group. “We look forward to continuing to work with 7 Deadly’s growers in the Lodi AVA, which we believe grows the best Zinfandel in California and the world.”

7 Deadly was founded by brothers Michael and David Phillips, who saw an opportunity with the quality Zinfandel grown in the Lodi AVA. In addition to being the #1 Zinfandel in the U.S. four years running, the brand has been cited as a Hot Brand winner by Impact Magazine and has received 90+ scores for numerous vintages from key publications.

International Wine Associates (IWA), a California-based M&A advisory firm that specializes in the wine industry, served as the exclusive advisor to and represented Michael David Winery in this transaction. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.erm
