Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission’s executive director, Sherry Cook, is stepping down. TABC said Cook’s department was a retirement. But there have been reports of top TABC officials spending thousands of dollars to attend conferences largely funded by bev/al suppliers. In one case, which resulted in a legislative hearing, TABC created a flyer showing top officials drinking or holding Lone Star Beer en route to a California meeting the National Conference of State Liquor Administrators.
Gov. Greg Abbott said he welcomed Cook’s “resignation,” adding: “It’s time to clean house from regulators not spending taxpayer money wisely. This is a good start.”
