West Virginia Gov. Gets Bill Easing Statewide Sale of Distilled Spirits

A West Virginia bill that reverses current Prohibition-era rules is awaiting signature by the governor.  Instead of requiring counties to opt-in to allow Sunday sales, the measure makes Sunday sales the norm – except when counties opt out.

Needless to say, the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. was pleased.  “We commend the House and Senate for modernizing the marketplace for spirits consumers,” said David Wojnar, vice president of state government relations at DISCUS. “It’s well past time to end burdensome Prohibition-era blue laws that inconvenience West Virginians.”
