TTB Proposes Three New Viti Areas

They are:

Palo Verdes Peninsula — 15,000 acres in the southwestern coastal region of Los Angeles County.  TTB’s proposal is in response to a petition from James York, owner of Catalina View Wines, on behalf of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Wingrowers.  The 15,900 acres include 7 acres of producing vineyards, scattered throughout the proposed AVA.  Primary varieties grown in the area are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

White Bluffs — 93,738 acrs in Franklin County, Washington.  Kevin Pogue, a college geology professor, submitted the proposal on behalf of local vineyard owners and winemakers.  The proposed AVA is entirely within the existing Columbia Valley AVA.  It contains nine commercial vineyards, covering a total of 1,127 acres, and one winery.

The Burn of Columbia Valley  — It, too, is entirely within the Columbia Valley AVA.  The proposal was submitted by Kevin Corliss, VP-vineyards, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates; Joan R. Davenport, professor of soil sciences at Washington State University, and John Merrick, VP-operations for Mercer Ranches Inc.

Within the proposed 16,870 acre AVA are three commercial vineyards covered a total of 1,261 acres which are owned by two different entities.
