Over the opposition of beer distributors — retailers who sell beer by the caseload — the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board approved six-pack sales for nine gas stations.
It’s a decision that Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf pushed for, urging PLCB in a letter to “free the six-pack.” He says gas stations should be allowed to sell six-packs of beer as they regularly and customarily prepare and sell food, have a serving area of not less than 300 square feet, and are equipped with tables and chairs accommodating at least 30 persons at one time. Sheetz, Wawa and Rutters all have stores meeting those criteria.
