He had already closed all stores and licensee service centers in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties. Now all PLCB operations statewide are being closed, including online services. That’s so PLCB can phase down operations in its Montgomery County fulfillment center.
Comment: Governors are making some tough decisions, but closing liquor stores seems to be not tough but just plain dumb. You don’t get the sort of crowds you get in supermarkets – where, by the way, wine and beer sales are still permitted. It also seems to favor wine and beer over spirits, which makes us wonder if the spirits folks didn’t contribute enough to Wolf’s campaign fund.
It also seems this would be a great time to be a liquor store owner in Phillipsburg, N.J., just over the Delaware River Bridge from Easton, Pa., 20 minutes from Bethlehem, Pa., and 25 minutes from Allentown, Pa. Or Emmetsburg, Md., just 16 minutes from Gettysburg. Or Wheeling, W.Va., just 36 minutes from Washington, Pa.
