Pastor Raises Money to Buy Out Liquor Stores Near Reservation

There are those who do, and there are those who talk. Pastor Bruce BonFleur is one of those who do. He was appointed to a task force to find solutions to a long-ranging conflict involving four liquor stores in Whiteclay, Neb., that sell 4 million cans of beer a year, mostly to residents of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, which is officially dry and right across the state line.
“It was about midway through that last year that at one of those meetings,” he told NPR, “one of the beer store owners in frustration just kind of blurted out, ‘We just need to sell. I need to sell. Get out!’” Other liquor store owners agreed.
BonFluer responded, if you’re serious, come see me. Four months later, one owner–representing all four–said they’ll sell for $6.3 million. BonFluer is trying to raise the money. Read more here, from NPR.
