Moet Hennessy Breaks Ground on New Research Center

Moët Hennessy said it’s new Robert-Jean de Vogüé Research Center will focus on four major research areas:

  • Innovating to understand: microbiology and biotechnology. Observing and analyzing micro-organisms to better understand their impact on vineyards.
  • Innovating to protect the climate: plant physiology. Conducting experiments on vines and grapes to meet the challenges of global warming.
  • Innovating to improve production: process engineering. Analyzing every step in winemaking to optimize processes and promote recyclability.
  • Innovating for the experience: sensory analysis and formulation. Analyzing the sensory profile of our products at different stages of production, to continue our Houses’ quests for excellence.

The center is named for Robert-Jean de Vogüé.  President of Moët & Chandon, de Vogüé innovated for the common good of the Group, as well as for different wine regions. Notably, in the 1930s, Robert-Jean de Vogüé determined a “contrat collectif” (collective agreement) with employees, a precursor to the social status of employees in France today. And in 1941 he helped create the CIVC Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne, a model which has since been replicated by other French wine regions.

Union: Heaven Hill Halts Talks, Moves to Replace Strikers

United Food & Commercial Workers Local 23D said heaven Hill Distilleries has broken off contract talks and move to replace 420 Heaven Hill distillery workers as a strike at Heaven Hill’s main distillery in Bardstown, Ky., nears its seventh week.

The union said Heaven Hill is refusing to bargain in good faith and filed a unfair labor practices charge against Heaven Hill with the National Labor Relations Board.

The union noted that the 420 Heaven Hill strikers are part of 100,000 workers on strike this month.

“The reality is that Heaven Hill negotiations are not at an impasse,” said Matt Aubrey, the local president. “UFCW 23D and Heaven Hill workers are ready and willing to meet with the company to continue talks so that we can reach a fair contract. Good faith bargaining by the company with its workers and their union can succeed,” he added.

“Heaven Hill workers launched a new grassroots campaign to show the company that Kentucky families and Americans across the country are calling for action on a fair contract to protect these good Kentucky jobs. In less than a week, support has poured in from the Bardstown community and so many others with nearly 2,000 supporters sending a total of over 5,000 emails to Max Shapira and other company executives.

“Heaven Hill immediately cut the healthcare of its workers and retirees when they spoke out for a stronger contract and went on strike. The contract proposed by the company threatens good jobs in our community by cutting overtime and trying to divide workers with unclear and potentially unfair scheduling.”

Heaven Hill didn’t respond to a request for comment on the union’s charges.

Talk about rare.  Only 200 handmade N°XIII red decanter and red cognac glasses, produced by Saint–Louis, the oldest glass manufacturer in Europe, will be available worldwide. The vibrant red hue of the glass can only be achieved using a secret process that requires the addition of gold. The decanters are blown, cut, decorated and engraved by hand, and individually numbered, finished with the Louis XIII signature dentelle spikes and a palladium neck.

The first N°XIII decanter to arrive in the U.S. will be unveiled on October 15 at OMNIA in Las Vegas.

With only 200 decanters available worldwide, the decanter experience is limited to one decanter per club per night. Following a N°XIII tasting ritual, clients may leave the nightclub with their N°XIII decanter (if the rules of the club and local legal regulations allow) as a treasured souvenir of the most memorable of nights. The NFC–enabled stopper grants the owner exclusive access to the LOUIS XIII Society and all its membership benefits.
