On National Beer Day, Free Rides, Courtesy of Breweries

On this day in 1933, the Cullen-Harrison Act ended Prohibition for beer.  To mark the occasion, Lyft and the Florida Brewers Guild offered discounted rides to 11 Tampa Bay area breweries.  Using the code BEERDAY19, riders could get 50% off two rides (up to $5 each) to and from participating breweries.  Riders also can get 25% off two rides (up to $5 each) from April 8 to July 6.

American Enterprise Institute notes the amazing transformation in the beer business.  In 1920, before Prohibition, there were just over 1,000 breweries.  That number was nearly reached again in the late 1930s/early 1940s only to fall to 89 in 1978.  At year-end 2018, there were 7.450 breweries, a new record high.
