Gov. Rick Snyder signed the bill, which takes effect immediately. It bans the use, possession or sale of marijuana-infused beer, wine, liquor and mixed drinks.
Proponents say the bill is a pre-emptive move in case Michigan voters next month legalize marijuana for recreational use. Marijuana-infused alcohol could exacerbate intoxicated driving, they say.
Opponents say the bill solves a problem that doesn’t exist: There isn’t a commercial market for marijuana-infused beverages, even if the initiatives passes, liquor establishments could not sell marijuana beverages because of a federal pot ban.
