That’s according to Drizly, which analyzed its sales data in advance of National Bourbon Day, June 14.  According to Drizly:

  • Bourbon is biggest. So far in 2018 bourbon has accounted for 38.44% of whiskey sold on the Drizly platform. Scotch accounts for 16.15%., Irish 9.94%, rye 7.28%, Canadian 5.79% and Japanese 1.72%
  • Sweet home…Kentucky. 95% of all bourbon purchased has come from Kentucky distilleries, while 5% are from other states, despite the rapid growth of bourbon production outside of the state nearly synonymous with the spirit.
  • Bourbon by age.Drizly shoppers ages 20-29 spend around $33 per bottle, ages 30-49 spend $35-$37, and ages 50+ spend $38+ on average.
  • We’re all loving Bourbon, but NYC loves it more. New Yorkers buy the most bourbon at 24-28% of all orders on Drizly vs. a 20% average across the rest of the U.S.
