Why Opening Windows Is a Key to Reopening Schools — Or Tasting Rooms — Safely

There’s a lot of discussion about re-opening schools during the pandemic.  This animation from The New York Times illustrates how opening windows reduces the possibilities for Covid to spread in a classroom, or, we’d guess, anywhere else —  tasting rooms, offices, warehouses and homes.

A few years ago I saw a study involving two hospitals in Japan.  The hospital in Japan that could open windows had far lower rates of infection from various bad stuff than those that had sealed windows.

Enjoy the irony:  We’ve spent the last quarter-century sealing our buildings as much as possible.  Now we might spend the next quarter-century trying to find ways to introduce outdoor air as much as possible.
