Wineries Are Cutting Energy Use One Bottle at a Time

Making and marketing wine requires lots of energy. Producing and transporting glass bottles (empty and full), cooling wineries and warehouses, running tractors in vineyards, sanitizing fermentation tanks and barrels all consume considerable amounts of electricity, fuel and water. Some wineries are taking substantial measures to reduce the environmental impact of all that energy use.  (Washington Post via The Telegraph)

 

Guinness Working on Non-Alcoholic Black Stuff

Michael Ward, the global head of innovation at Diageo, the beverage company that produces Guinness, has said that a non-alcoholic version of the Irish stout is being developed but there are “a lot of challenges to work through.”

Speaking at a media event focusing on the company’s plans for innovative beer and spirits, Ward said that the company does not want to rush new products and an alcohol-free version of the black stuff will not be hitting the market anytime soon, Campaign Live reports. (IrishCentral)

 

Study Touts Planting 1 Trillion Trees as Most Effective Climate Change Solution

The cheapest way to halt the effects of climate change could be planting 1 trillion trees, according to a new study.  But it won’t work without a reduction of emissions around the globe.  (The Hill Newspaper)
