Total U.S. still wine production in October was 170.2 million gallons, down from 181.2 million gallons a year earlier, Alcohol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau reports, Year-to-date, total U.S. still wine production was down about 40.1 million gallons – 519.4 million gallons in 2019 vs. 559.6 million a year earlier.
Taxable withdrawals fell to 934,233 gallons from 1.1 million gallons a year earlier. But on a year-to-date basis, taxable withdrawals have soared – to 20.4 million gallons from 11.1 million in 2018.
In October, some 57.8 million gallons of still wine were bottled, up from 55.7 million a year earlier. Year to date, still wine bottlings were virtually unchanged – 614 million gallons this year vs. 613.4 million through Oct. 31, 2018.
Total bottlings of sparkling wines in October fell to 2.5 million gallons from 3 million gallons a year earlier. But total taxable withdrawals in October rose to 3.8 million gallons from 3.4 million a year earlier.
