Trinchero Moves into Cans with Pomelo

Pomelo Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé will be released nationally in 375-ml. cans Friday, Trinchero Family Estates said.  It’s TFE’s first entry into canned wines.  Retail: $6.

The offerings are 12.5% alcohol by volume.

Trinchero noted that canned wine is the fastest growing wine format, up 65% by dollars.

The Rose is described as light and fruit on the nose, with flavors of fresh watermelons and strawberry balanced by crisp acidity.  The Sauvignon Blanc is described as have aromas of fresh white blossoms with white peach, melon and ripe citrus on the palate.

Pomelo was founded in 2004 by Randy and Megan Mason and was named after a citrus fruit related to grapefruit.  TFE acquired the brand in 2017.

Several other marketers – including E.&J. Gallo, Treasury Wine Estates, and The Wine Group – are producing wine in cans.  From both a consumer convenience perspective and an environmental (or recycling and shipping) perspective, it seems like a smart move.  We expect more brands will follow.
