The $90/750ml wine is a tribute to Haley and Lorenzo Trefethen’s parents, Janet and John Trefethen.
When John and Janet met in 1973, he was a young Navy veteran and she was a recent California rodeo queen. Over the next five decades, as they built Trefethen into the Napa Valley icon it is today, they also made time for their passions outside of wine.
Sometimes, work and play would mix – John occasionally landed his small plane on the winery driveway and Janet continues to ride her horses through the vineyard every day. The label of The Cowgirl and The Pilot features creative artwork depicting a cowgirl galloping, creating a cloud of dust that turns into rows of vines, and an airplane flying along behind.
The Cowgirl and The Pilot completes Trefethen’s Legacy Collection of wines, with each wine honoring a generation of the Trefethen Family. The other Legacy wines include Harmony Chardonnay, which celebrates Katie and Gene, the first generation, and HaLo Cabernet Sauvignon, named by Janet and John for third generation vintners Hailey and Lorenzo.
