The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a 3.5% increase in funding for the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse & Alcoholism, to $500,491,000 from $483,525,000. President Trump’s FY 2018 budget request was for $361,356,000 as part of a proposed cut in appropriations for National Institutes of Health, of which NIAAA is a unit.
The committee also approved $1,113,422,000 for the National Institute on Drug Abuse, up from $1,073,320,000. NIDA’s budget would have been cut to $864,998,000 under the President’s original budget request.
At today’s press conference releasing the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, several people outside the government praised the Trump Administration for their strong support of recovery and treatment programs.
