Romanian Distillers to Build Plant in Putnam County, N.Y.

Alexandrion Group, Romania’s largest spirits producer, will invest more than $40 million in Putnam County, N.Y., creating 102 new jobs over five years. Upon completion in 2020, the new distillery will produce premium spirits tailored for the U.S. market such as whiskey, bourbon, gin, brandy and vodka.

In July 2017, Alexandrion Group announced its intention to invest in its first U.S. distillery. Empire State Development, New York’s chief economic development agency, offered the company up to $2.7 million in performance-based tax credits through the Excelsior Jobs Program.

Alexandrion Group will create 102 new jobs and invest more than $40 million in the construction and renovation of its new 120,000-square-foot distillery and tasting room located at 39 Seminary Hill in Carmel, Putnam County, subject to local approvals.
