Splash Acquires Pulpoloco Sangria

Splash Beverage Group, Inc. said it agreed to acquire 80% of Pulpoloco Sangria in a transaction that will give Splash control over the manufacturing and distribution of Pulpoloco across the US while adding international markets, capturing the additional margin and revenue. Terms weren’t disclosed.

Splash acquired the distribution rights to Pulpoloco in 2020 and is currently the exclusive importer of Pulpoloco for the United States.  Splash has overseen the dramatic growth of the brand, including a 43% increase in sales through May versus the prior year.  Pulpoloco Sangria is made in Madrid, Spain following the family recipe of the founder Paul Damon with three varietals, Crisp White, Soft Rose’, and Smooth Red.  Pulpoloco is packaged in a highly innovative, ecofriendly paper can called the CartoCan.  Splash expects to complete the transaction by the end of August.

Robert Nistico, Splash Beverage Group’s chairman/CEO, commented, “In addition to bringing Pulpoloco entirely under the Splash roof, we will benefit from the additional layer of margin AND increase our global footprint and revenue.  Pulpoloco was the only brand in our portfolio where we were not directly responsible for the manufacturing.  Owning the manufacturing process entirely, which includes the exclusive rights of the innovative eco-friendly packaging, not only expands those rights, but will provide us with the opportunity to ship in greater bulk and to markets with faster growth potential.  We believe this will help us add scale and drive additional revenue growth while potentially improving margins.”

Splash announced that Pulpoloco’s founder Paul Daman will also be joining the Splash team and will manage the international business for Pulpoloco and other Splash brands as well.

House OKs Renewal of STOP Underage Drinking Act

The House passed and sent to the Senate the “Sober Truth on Preventing (STOP) Underage Drinking Act.”  It’s part of a legislative package authorizing over 30 priorities.  If signed into law, the STOP Act would be authorized through 2027.

National Beer Wholesalers Association applauded the House passage after supporting passage during its legislative conference in April.

“America’s beer and beverage distributors applaud the passage of the STOP Underage Drinking Act. This proven piece of legislation helps combat underage drinking while affirming the value of the state-based system of alcohol regulation,” said NBWA President/CEO Craig Purser. “The STOP Act recognizes that alcohol is different than other consumer products and is best regulated by the states, consistent with the 21st Amendment. NBWA is grateful to the leadership of Reps. Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA) and Dave Joyce (OH) for their tireless work to see this important legislation reauthorized. We encourage the Senate to pass the STOP Act so it can continue to provide necessary tools to address underage drinking.”

Bacardi Promotes Underrepresented Artists

With a new song being released evey second of every day during the summer, it’s hard for up-and-coming music artists to break through.  So, Bacardi is back with the “Music Liberates Music” program intended to champion underrpresented voices in the music industry.  Working with Nahmias, a high-end streetwear brand which has embedded QR codes into each garment directing the wearer to an album of rising global music talent when they go to snap a photo.

Fans will also earn live music rewards every time someone scans their hat, tee, hoodie, or jacket and listens to the rising artists. So, the more fans promote the music, the more concert tickets they could earn.
