Matthew McConaughey and Wild Turkey Honor Local Music Scenes

Matthew McConaughey and Wild Turkey are recognizing five individuals who kept their local music scenes alive with a series of $10,000 donations to community-based music initiatives of their choice.

Wild Turkey’s Creative Director and the iconic bourbon brand teamed up to honor five “Local Legends” who supported music endeavors that helped their communities thrive during an exceptionally trying time. This is the fifth year that McConaughey and Wild Turkey have come together during the holiday season to recognize and reward everyday heroes.

Here are the winners and their charity beneficiaries:

  • Jason Eskridge is a former NASA mechanical engineer who left to pursue his true passion in music. Now a prominent figure in the R&B and urban Nashville scene, Eskridge created a community of diversity when he began Sunday Night Soul, a bi-monthly, performance event spotlighting soul artists in Nashville. Eskridge stood by his mission and retooled the event to be streamed virtually during the pandemic. His $10,000 will be donated to the Nashville Arts and Business Council to benefit Your Song, a collaborative songwriting program that connects performing arts centers, musicians and artists with vulnerable communities to promote healing and community connectedness.
  • Jess Garland is a filmmaker and local musician in Dallas who turned her personal history into incredible storytelling songs. Understanding the emotional, therapeutic power of music, she formed the non-profit Swan Strings, which brings free music lessons to Dallas residents. She is also the Executive Director of another music-centric non-profit, Girls Rock Dallas. For her $10,000 donation, she has selected Deep Ellum 100, an organization that provides financial grants to musicians affected by the pandemic.
  • Justin Branam is the Program Director for Musicians Corner, a program of Centennial Park Conservancy, a nonprofit organization in Nashville that aims to preserve, enhance, and share the Parthenon and Centennial Park. During COVID, Justin and his team at Musicians Corner worked diligently to provide virtual experiences, keeping the safety of audiences top of mind while still finding ways to provide entertainment to their community and spotlight musicians and local small businesses. Justin has selected Musicians Corner to receive his $10,000 donation.
  • Justin Fedor is a singer, guitarist, and benefit concert organizer in Charlotte, NC. Since 2013, Justin has organized the biannual concert series, Tribute to Benefit, which raises tens of thousands for local charitable causes. During the pandemic, Fedor enlisted his community to create a virtual John Prine Tribute and another Tribute to Black Artists. Fedor has selected DrumsForCures to receive his $10,000 donation. Several times over the years, DrumsForCures has matched funds with Tribute to Benefit to double the donations to local non-profits. DrumsForCures produces DRUMSTRONG events raising awareness and funds in support of cancer survivorship, education and research through facilitated interactive rhythm experiences globally.
  • Melissa A. Weber—aka DJ Soul Sister—is a longtime New Orleans resident and locally renowned dance party host. She’s credited as the first to implement a vaccine mandate at her New Orleans dance parties, where she spins classic funk. She has chosen to split her $10,000 donation evenly between the New Orleans Musicians Clinic and Assistance Foundation, which provides medical care and social services to local artists, and Backstreet Cultural Museum, which preserves and documents local music-oriented cultures of Mardi Gras Indians, social aid and pleasure clubs, jazz funerals, and other Black New Orleans cultural traditions.

NEFT Vodka To Host Emerging Film Talent Competition

NEFT Emerging Film Talent International (“NEFTI”). NEFTI is an annual competition to discover, develop and promote filmmakers from emerging economies around the world.

Funded entirely by NEFT Vodka, the three finalists with the most compelling proposals will produce a short film on a $3,000 budget, one of which will be chosen for the grand prize of $5,000. All three of the films are then submitted to several international film festivals and showcased by International Emereging Film Talent Association and NEFT Vodka on a variety of platforms.

In addition to the cash award, the grand prize winner joins the judging panel for the following year’s NEFTI, working closely with three recognized and highly-regarded film industry veterans. The panel includes award winning actress, producer and director, Vivica A. Fox; Oscar and Tony award winning film, television and theater producer, Bruce Cohen; and, producer and current President of Feature Post-Production at 20th Century Fox, Ted Gagliano. For the inaugural competition, independent filmmaker and NEFT’s Chief Creative Officer, Paul Robinson acted as the fourth and final judge. In all future NEFTI’s, Robinson will be replaced by the winner of the prior year’s competition.

Each film must embody NEFT’s belief that humor can be found in everyday life, reflecting NEFT’s motto that “Life is a story. Make it a good one™.” In addition, a barrel of NEFT must be included in some capacity that is not a simple product placement. This affords the filmmakers to experience working within specific parameters of a brand and develop skills that they may not yet have been exposed to.

WTO Panel to Review China Tariff’s on Australia Wine

The World Trade Organization‘s Dispute Resolution Body agreed to establish a panel to examine China’s imposition of anti-dumping and countervailing duties on imported wine from Australia.

It was the second time Australia sought a panel to examine China’s imposition of anti-dumping and countervailing duties on imported Australian wine.  Australia’s first request was blocked by China at the DSB meeting on Sept. 27.

Australia said that while it remains ready to engage in bilateral discussion with China, Australia is disappointed that it is not seeing any concrete steps by China to respond to its concerns.  As a result, Australia is again requesting the establishment of a panel to examine the matter. Australia values its community and economic ties with China and remains open to further discussions with China, with a view to resolving the issues Australia has raised.

China said it regrets that Australia has decided to submit a second request for a panel.  China said it will vigorously defend its legitimate measures in the proceedings and is confident they are consistent with relevant WTO rules.  China remains open to further engagement with Australia in good faith, with a view to positively resolving this dispute.

The DSB agreed to the establishment of the panel.  Canada, Japan, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Turkey, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, India, Singapore, Russia, the European Union, and Viet Nam reserved their third party rights to take part in the proceedings.

Distinguished Vineyards Intros Fuji Whiskey

Distinguished Vineyards & Wine Partners (‘DVWP’) announces the U.S. debut of Fuji Whisky, grain and blended whiskies from Japan. Launching in the U.S. for the first time, FUJI Single Grain Whiskey ($94.99) is available at select establishments nationwide with Fuji Whisky ($59.99) slated to arrive in November. Both expressions will be available nationwide on and off premise.

Mt. Fuji Distillery was established in 1973 to bring the best of Japanese craftsmanship to life while employing Scottish, American, and Canadian whisk(e)y making methods under a single roof, an amalgamation that celebrates whiskey’s worldwide heritage.

Named after one of Japan’s most iconic landmarks, Mt. Fuji Distillery is situated just miles from the peak of Mt. Fuji and uses the mountain’s snowmelt in its production. The snowmelt’s 50-year journey from Mt. Fuji’s peak to the depths of an underground aquifer to the distillery results in a uniquely clear, pristine, and soft water that is the foundation for FUJI’s distinctive whisky expressions.

The FUJI Single Grain Whiskey is a blend of three different grain whiskeys, each distilled in three different methods, each possessing its own unique flavor profile. The American features a more heavy, rich, floral fruity style; the Canadian type is medium, luscious, and delicately fruity; and the Scotch type is known for its lighter, soft, yet compelling qualities. This results in a delicately fruity whiskey that is both mellow and multi-layered in profile.

3 Badge Debut Barrel Program for Benjamin Chapman

3 Badge Beverage Corp. expanded its trade offerings in the growing craft whiskey category with the launch of  Benjamin Chapman 7-Year Whiskey barrel program, designed exclusively for 3 Badge’s trade partners. While fans of Benjamin Chapman 7-Year Whiskey know it as a premium small-batch whiskey, this program offers a rare opportunity for trade accounts to choose their own customized whiskey and receive a bespoke order barrel finished in either American, French, or Hungarian oak. Additional Benjamin Chapman barrel program offerings will be available throughout 2022.

“We are excited to offer this unique opportunity for our trade partners,” noted August Sebastiani, president. “There is no better way to get to know the authentic versatility of Benjamin Chapman 7-Year Whiskey – and recognize that intangible element of intrigue for which it’s known – than to sample it across three different barrel finishes.”

This exclusive program offers buyers the opportunity to taste samples directly from various secondary barrel finishes before choosing their preferred barrel. Once selected, their barrel will be removed from availability. Each bottle will be tagged with the account’s unique information, as well as the barrel details. Next, the account will receive a barrel head with its exclusive logo. Each bottle will feature a limited edition necker with an accent design based on the barrel type.

Benjamin Chapman is fashioned with a blend of 51% 10-Year Canadian Rye and 49% 7-Year Canadian Prairie Wheat. The rye is distilled by artisans with pure glacial water sourced from the northern Rockies in an old-fashioned pot still for a clean and flavorful profile. The Canadian Prairie Wheat is distilled in continuous triple column stills and aged for a minimum of seven years in American oak whiskey barrels for a rich and bold style of whiskey.

The diamond faceted bottle evokes the elegant crystal tumblers often used in the 1960s for classic whiskey cocktails. A prominent “BC” signature is etched on the bar top as a playful nod to the inscription he is said to have left behind on his hotel receipts and restaurant bills. The label’s subtle textured lines conjure the fashionable tweed suits of the early 1960s, while the gold foil motif represents the traditional gold cuff links and men’s jewelry often worn in that era. An intricate diamond pattern lays vertically over a brilliant emerald green, recalling a silk tie motif popular in Benjamin Chapman’s day.
