The Krupps sold their 600-acre Stagecoach Vineyard in Napa Valley to E&J Gallo. We told you they planned to buy a winery. Now we know which one: Kitchak Cellars, 1094 Hardman Ave., Napa.
Terms of the transaction, which includes a 20-acre estate, Tuscan-style stone winery, tasting rooms, barrel storage area, 10-acre vineyard, and the Kitchak brand weren’t disclosed.
“We took the opportunity provided to us by the sale of Stagecoach Vineyard to expand our winery brand and to focus on what brought us to Napa in the first place: creating exquisite wines,” said Jan Krupp, M.D., an internist turned vintner. “Now, not only do we now have a deluxe winery, but we are able to be host our guests in a setting that truly complements our wines.”
Krupp Brothers has been producing about 4,500 cases a year at the Wine Foundry, a custom winery.
“The advantage of having your own winery estate is that we have complete control over every step, from the vineyard to the bottling including tank availability and complete flexibility over timing of when to press the grapes from the skins,” Krupp said.
The 1,500-case-a-year Kitchak brand, which retails for $65 to $135 a bottle, will continue to be made and poured for tasting there for the foreseeable future, the Krupps said.
