Soda Rock Winery‘s main building, including a tasting room, event space, lodging and other facilities, was destroyed. Only the stone façade and a steel sculpture of a boar remain.
“We’ve seen the news. We are devastated,” a Soda Rock Instagram post stated Sunday morning. “Our staff is safe — right now what is most important is the safety of the first responders battling the fire.”
The fire that destroyed Soda Rock in Healdsburg was likely sparked by embers from a fire seven or more miles away, Cal Fire said. Soda Rock has been in Healdsburg since 1869.
Fieldstone Winery also was destroyed, CalFire said.
Structure fires were also spotted at Moville Vineyards. At least 30,000 acres have been destroyed by the fire, Cal Fire estimated.
Julia Jackson of Jackson Family Wines posted on Instagram that her home was “burnt down to the ground.”
As of 3:30 this morning, the fire had burned 54,298 acres and is 5% contained, according to CalFire. Some 80,000 structures are threatened and 94 have been destroyed, including at least 31 homes.
The City of San Francisco opened a temporary shelter to assist those displaced. The shelter is at the Cathedral of St. Mary.
Strong winds spread the fire, blow embers as much as several miles. Once those embers land, a new fire erupts.
