Following the 82-10 vote today, The Indianapolis Star predicted Sunday sales could start as soon as March 4. The measure still mustclear the Senate, which is expected, and be signed by the governor.
It would be the first time in Indiana history that Hoosiers could purchase carryout alcohol on Sunday. The ban has been widely unpopular in recent years.
Passage followed an alliance between the Indiana Liquor Stores Association and the Indiana Retail Council, which represents big box retailers and chain pharmacies. Both groups agreed to support Sunday sales and to oppose expanded cold beer sales. Convenience stores have sought the to sell cold beer on Sundays for years.
