House Spirits Distillery, in Portland, Ore. announces the national release of Westward American Single Malt whiskey. It’s been in development since the distillery was founded in 2004 (and has been Founder Christian Krogstad’s “dream whiskey” for decades).
The new release is a mingled 750ml offering ($80), said to truly embody the spirit of the Pacific Northwest, drawing inspiration from the brewing culture of its hometown.
Though a new offering, House Spirits and Christian Krogstad have been distilling American Single Malt whiskey since 2006 (and releasing it as Westward Oregon Single Malt, a 375ml single barrel expression, which has been available in select markets across the U.S.).
In 2015 the company became the largest independent distiller of American single malt whiskey when it opened its new Portland city center distillery.
The move increased the company’s distilling capacity six-fold and solidified its place as the largest distilling operation in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. On a typical day, House Spirits Distillery brews 3,000 gallons of wash, and distills 3,000 gallons of beer and 600 gallons of low wines to produce 5-6 barrels of Westward American Single Malt whiskey (more than 1,500 750 mL bottles).
