The Washington Post had a story in its Sunday (9/6) to the effect the Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, who was a top Republican campaign contribution, had given or increased bonuses for workers at his formed company who made campaign donations to Republicans.
That would be illegal under campaign financing laws. But even if it’s not, it can get you on the front page of newspapers, which is not normally a good spot to be.
The problem with this practice is that it can be used to conceal who really made the contribution.
We’re pretty certain that DeJoy isn’t the only person who has done that, if in fact he did. But when a person becomes prominent as an appointee of a president of a politician that particular media outlet “hates,” the knives can come out.
