European antitrust regulators are said to be ready to approve today Anheuser-Busch InBev’s $107 billion mergerwith SABMiller.
The takeover will give ABI one-third of the global beer market. ABI apparently won the approval by agreeing to sell SABMiller’s Peroni, Grolsch and Meantime beer brands to Asahi Group Holdings Ltd. ABI also agreed to sell SABMiller’s business in Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, sources told Reuters.
The EU approval would clear the way for MillerCoors to acquire SABMiller’s U.S. operations.
