Does Education Secretary Own Part of a DC Brewery? Boycott in the Air

Here in the nation’s capital, our liberals take their politics very seriously.  So seriously, in fact, that after word got out that Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has invested somewhere between $500,000 and $1 million in Jos. A. Magnus & Co., some DC residents are planning to boycott the local craft brewer.

“I don’t care how good their booze might be, I’ll never buy it again after I found out the place helps line her pockets,´Mike Lastort tweeted.

“While we’re working on impeaching her boss, let’s make sure we don’t line her pockets. DC, skip @DistrictMagnus – one of her investments – when you’re looking for drinks,” added Mark Blacknell.

#DumpDeVos or you’re not getting any business from me ever again,” tweeted Eve Zhurbinskiy.

Magnus denied DeVos is one of their investors,” but confirmed “some members of her family are.”

Who is Mark Blacknell?  He’s an attorney and president of the Washington Area Bicycle Association.  Had Blacknell scrutinized DeVos financial disclosure form, he would have noted that Magnus hasn’t done much to “line her pockets” – the form says she gets “none or less than $201” a year from the craft brewer.

And who is Mike Lastort?  He lives in Takoma Park, Md., whose city council made it a nuclear-free zone.  He works at least part time at the DCHomeBrew Shop, plays tenor sax for the Delarcos, and is chief lifecycle engineer at Securiport, He joined Securiport from the Department of Health & Human Services, where he was chief solutions architect.
