Pabst announced a long-term production contract and said it intends to transition most of its production volume to City Brewing Co., LaCrosse, Wis., by December 2024. The contract runs until 2040.
A large part of Pabst’s production had occurred at MillerCoors Eden, N.C., facility. After a court battle, MillerCoors agreed to continue to produce Pabst’s products on a contract basis for a while longer.
“We are thrilled to establish this long-term partnership with City Brewing,” Pabst Chairman and CEO Eugene Kashper said in the press release. “We have great respect for (City Brewing Chairman and CEO) George Parke and his family, and also for the management team’s operational excellence, and the entire organization’s commitment to quality.”
The agreement benefits both parties. For Pabst, it means the company continues to be spared the capital expense of building and operating major breweries. For City Brewing, it “accelerates our ability to move forward with an investment program to expand our facilities and enhance our capabilities – which will provide a huge benefit to all of our customers,” said Parke. We look forward to brewing PBR and some of the other great brands in Pabst’s portfolio that are beloved locally and nationally.”
In addition to LaCrosse, City operates breweries in Latrobe, Pa., and Memphis, Tenn.
