William K. Busch Brewing Co., St. Louis, is “ceasing all operations and shutting down,” Founder William K. (Billy) Busch said, citing market demand.
“After careful consideration, the William K. Busch Brewing Co. has decided to shut down,” said Billy Busch. “I want to thank all of our customers, retailers, suppliers, and vendors who have supported us over the last eight years. I’ve always been passionate about brewing, because it’s in my blood. I hope to one day return to this great American-led industry.”
Kräftig will continue to be available at retailers and other outlets while supplies last, as we wind down operations. He predicted that inventory will last through September of 2019.
Busch is a son of August “Gussie” Busch Jr., who built Anheuser-Busch into the leading American brewer. Billy Busch never worked for A-B.
The closure is a bit of a surprise, since the company had been planning to build a brewery and distillery on land he owns in St. Charles County near St. Louis. He said he never considered Kraftig, the company’s flagship brand, a craft beer.
