Bollinger Buys Ponzi Vineyards

Champagne Bollinger said it acquired Ponzi Vineyards, one of Oregon’s pioneering wineries.

Ponzi Vineyards was founded in the northern Willamette Valley by Dick and Nancy Ponzi in 1970. Their original 20-acre farm southwest of Portland grew over the decades into 175 acres of vines the Ponzi family owns or manages. Anna Maria Ponzi, president and director of sales and marketing, and winemaker Luisa Ponzi have carried on their parents’ wine legacy for the past 25 years.

Bollinger’s deal includes purchasing the Avellana Vineyard surrounding the Ponzi winery facility, along with two of the family’s oldest vineyards, Abetina and Madrona. The three vineyards total 35 acres, all of which are located in the newly established Laurelwood District American Viticultural Area.

The Ponzi family will retain their original estate vineyard and their Aurora, Issimo and Paloma vineyards. The four vineyards combined total approximately 100 acres. The Ponzi family agreed to a long-term contract with Bollinger to sell grapes from these vineyards to the Ponzi Vineyards brand.
