This has seemed like a Catch-22: Someone is convicted of a crime, serves time and then, when released, can’t get work. If someone can’t work, it’s highly likely they will return to crime, defeating the whole purpose of “corrections.”
After two years of research the Alabama Legislature has taken a step forward toward reducing these “collateral consequences,” unanimously passing and sending to Gov. Kay Ivey a bill that removes many of the restrictions the currently face people who have served their time and paid full restitution.
